"Betty's Notes" on getting started: If you are buying or selling a home in Austin and you want to see what's "out there", I recommend that you bookmark www.austinhomesearch.com as the most complete and up-to-date website for the consumer. This is the official website of the Austin Board of Realtors. You may search/look for listings based on numerous criteria (e.g., number of bedrooms, baths and living areas, school districts, zip codes, real estate areas, views, ....). Photos and virtual tours are available. (You know how to reach me if you see something you want to see.)
At the national level, use Realtor.com, by far the most widely used real estate web site in the world.
If you are planning to purchase a home, I recommend that you use a real estate professional working as a "Buyer's Agent". Buyer's Agents will counsel you to choose a home wisely for your wants and needs as well as for resale later. They will negotiate on your behalf for the lowest possible price to pay for a property.
If you are selling, the advice and guidance of a real estate professional can make the difference between a home that sits and a home that sells. In this case, the real estate professional would be working as a "Listing Agent", working with you to prepare your home for sale, marketing the home, and negotiating for the highest price on your home.
